Time passes in the blink of an eye.

Well, everybody. This is it! It’s the final chapters. Please leave your thoughts, questions, and comments here. Just try to be as spoiler-free as possible for the people who don’t like spoilers. If/when I post some type of review here, you’re welcome to post spoilers then.

As always, thank you all so very much for reading. And credit due to everybody else who was a part of YukiBrigade at some point. This project was a lot bigger than me, and without you all this wouldn’t have been possible. It’s been a really fun journey. I hope you can forgive us for leaving you hanging for a couple years before I picked it up.

Oh, buy the official translation when it comes out! Support the authors!

Um… I don’t know what else to say. So… yeah, that’s it. See ya.

Woohoo finally it ends!! Thx for scanlating!!

  2. Anon

Thanks for the scans. Now back to waiting for the next volume of the LN to finally be published or another Tea of Sagittarius doujin.

Do you have any plans for what to do from now on (In regards to scanlation)?
If you do happen to have the motivation and interest to translate some more Haruhi material, there’s some old non-h doujin, that as far as I know have yet to be translated; ‘COOL DRIVE 3’, ‘Asakura Safe-Mode’

I think I’ll be taking a break for a while. I don’t have a whole lot of spare time for this these days. Maybe if I find something exceptional. I’m not super into DJs, though. I think it’s becuase it always feels like someone’s trying to ship the characters together. Maybe if it was like, short 4-panel type things, I’d read it, but then there’s better things to read out there as well (i.e. I need to catch up on Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure).

  3. MountainZaki

I really appreciate your work. once again, thank you very much

    Tbh, I don’t like the ending πŸ™

When I read Haruhi’s part in this finale, my heart feels strange.

Thanks a gazillion, Cal. Thanks for everything.

    • Calculuswhiz

Well, I guess that’s fair. I didn’t really have a problem with it though. It seemed like the kind of thing she’d do.

  5. Kyon-kun

Thank you for the hard work.

OMG T_T THANK YOU FOR TRANSLATING THIS MANGA

  7. Username

    Thank you for your work!

  8. wizardh21

My deepest gratitude to YukiBrigade and Calculuswhiz for translating this until the end for over five years.
I hope there’s still more of this, but I don’t hate this ending too.

I hope my local publisher license it soon so I can support the authors.

Oh well, time to re-read it from beginning~

  9. Dude

I guess it’s time to say goodbye, Cal?
I don’t want to get overly dramatic about this, even though this moment is kinda dramatic for me. (Neither did Puyo want to end this series with tones of drama – you can tell it by how much comedy is present in this manga untill its very last chapter.)
But I really want to thank you for translating this manga. It gave me many moments of laughter, some moments of sadness, some moments of joy – you know, feelings. And without you I would probably never knew about it – and I would be robbed of having all of this feelings.
It will always be a very special manga for me – with a very special translation.
Keep on translating… Well, if you really fell like it. I would gladly read anything translated by your hand. And hopefully, I’m not the only one who can say that.
(Sorry for my english – I’m from the grim darkness of Russia. Yeah, your translations have gone global a very long time ago.)

    • Calculuswhiz

Well, I think I get the general gist of it! Thanks for reading. I’m glad you enjoyed.

  10. Fgsfds

Thanks for your work. I went and bought the whole set on Amazon Japan for some reason and noticed afterwards there was a single 4koma manga for sale too, any idea what that book is?

  11. Carol

I can’t believe if ended… Long years following the updates of this great manga, supporting these two before even knowing about this work. I must thank you profusely for translating and sharing with us Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu! I hope I can see more from the Suzumiya Haruhi series, as it’s very good and really deserves more sequels/spin-offs! Thank you, again!

    • Calculuswhiz

Yeah. I’m still hoping that Tanigawa is working on Part 11, though. So much needs to be resolved…

  12. Canmo

Thank you. I appreciate all your work. Dont know how to put my words.
From the very bottom of my soul… Thanks :’)

  13. Dude

First you go “Bon”, and then it goes “Kyuu”.
In the site logo. Before I go, just tell me. What the hell does that mean?

    • Calculuswhiz

Oh, ok. So that’s from one of the earlier chapters when Nagato was explaining how to do a math problem. Asakura advised Kyon not to ask for math help from Nagato because of her weird thought process.

  14. Hart W.

Thank you very much! Really appreciate your work!

  15. Grahf

Perhaps the only piece of Haruhi related media that will have a conclusion. Sad, in a lot of ways.

It’s been a ride. I wonder if there will be an S2 of this that will cover the rest. They could certainly do it. That would be nice.

Thank you, CW, and everyone else that has contributed to this over the years. It’s been an honour to be along for the ride.

    • Calculuswhiz

Yeah, I guess it is kind of sad. I’ve kind of moved on to other things too, but Haruhi will always occupy a special space in my mind. Come to think of it, I’ve been a fan for about 6 years now, since I watched the movie when I was still in high school… huh. Time sure flies.
I donno if there’s going to be an S2, but… we do know that S1 covered through V5, so maybe? I was kind of underwhelmed by a lot of S1, though. That said, I’ll still watch it if it comes out.
Hey, thank you. It’s been fun. I think I remember you leaving comments before the project migrated to this site back in 2011-ish? Thanks for your patience!

  16. ZeroDivide

Thanks for all the hard work! I really like where this series ended up, and I’m quite satisfied with the ending. I’m so glad to see the whole work translated! It’s a shame that the anime stopped before getting to some of my favorite parts…

Kyon and Yuki are adorable, but also… if there’s one thing that I never expected going into this series, it’s that I would end up shipping Haruhi and Ryoko together, but jeez do they have some great moments.

    • Calculuswhiz

Well, as I said, the anime also stopped at Volume 5. There wouldn’t have been enough material for a Season 2.

Eh, I don’t really see it. I will say that I do like that they become good friends by the end, but that’s really all I can say for sure without reading into it too much.

  17. Forever

Well, the inevitable has come. Perhaps it was a good thing that we had to wait for this volume for so long – at least I had some time to digest the fact that it was the final volume.

I don’t really hope for anime season 2 anymore. I think this is not how it works in this business, they don’t really make TV series for already concluded manga series (please correct me if I’m wrong). I would have loved to hear Sasaki’s voice, though.

There are many more things that I could say at this moment, but they are not strictly related to the Yuki series, so I’ll pass. There is one thing that has to be said, though. Thank you YukiBrigade and thank you Calculuswhiz.

    • Calculuswhiz

      My pleasure.

I mean, they did end up animating Fullmetal Alchemist again. So there’s that. Not that I’m putting it on the same tier as FMA, of course, but it’s not unheard of.

      • Forever

Thanks for the example. I’ve checked it, of course, and it turns out FMA was animated again when the manga and the light novel were still going.

By the way, the Yuki anime had an unusual number of 16 episodes. Perhaps there isn’t enough material for further 16 episodes, but maybe 12.

      • Calculuswhiz

Oh, I guess you’re right. My fault. I guess should have looked it up instead of just assuming. Probably it was because I read it all the way through before I knew about Brotherhood back in the day. Hm… I donno then. Perhaps you’re right. It makes sense from a marketing perspective anyway. Now that I think about it, that explains why so many anime leave off on a cliffhanger or completely jump ship with their own endings.

Personally, I prefer the cliffhanger, so I’m glad they didn’t choose to “reimagine” the ending of Yuki-chan. Despite the things I didn’t like about the anime, that was a plus in my book.

  18. Exerion

There comes the end of nice serie ! YukiBrigade no minna-san Arigato ! Soshite Arigato! Promise I will buy all the original manga πŸ™‚ (already bought some).

  19. worldcon

Huge shoutout to the team for finishing this!

As somebody who worked on the first six chapters back in 2009, I’m happy to see that this series has reached a conclusion.

    …Dang, I am old.

    • Calculuswhiz

Wow, one of my predecessors! Glad you were able to read it all the way through.

  20. Grambo

Thank you so much for everything you’ve done. This series has found a special place in my heart and I never would have experienced it if it weren’t for you. I like that the ending had conclusions for everyone, and that at least one of the Haruhi series got a definite ending.

    Cheers!

    • Calculuswhiz

Yup! At least one of the two did, haha…

  21. Charlie Daemon

I have to thank you alot on your efforts translating the series. Although it’s kinda sad it has come to an end, I’m pretty happy to being able to read it completelly.
Also, I was working as the spanish translator of Yuki-Chan, and I was using your translation as my basis. My japanese isn’t really good, so having and english version was a lot of help for me.
So, again, thank you so much and hope to read you again any time soon.

    • Calculuswhiz

Thanks for reading! But be careful. I do make mistakes, and sometimes I don’t do a great job with the dialogue. I don’t know what happened, but Volume 9 really suffered from it. I even made a spelling error on one of the panels.

  22. salmonanon

Thank you so much YukiBrigade and Cal for translating this great series. Cal you’re really an amazing person for all your effort till the end!

  23. Kemm

The ending was very emotive, but what really touched my heart was that it’s the first time the author finishes something that’s not a 4-koma (if you could call those “endings”, as it’s just “no more of this, folks”).

    • Calculuswhiz

Um, yeah? It’s the story’s epilogue, so is it somehow an issue here? It only makes sense for the other volumes set up the following ones, like a preview.

      • Kemm

I think we are having a case of miscommunication, as either you have not understood what I wrote or I fail to understand how your answer ties in with my comment.

Just in case, I’ll make a TL;DR of my comment: Tanigawa had never, before this, finished a single series he’s authored, other than the 4-komas “Nyoron no Churuya-chan” and “Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuiitsu”, but those 2 have only been “finished” by virtue of not writing more chapters (which explains why Haruhi-chan has finished at least twice).

(for a TL;DR this is longer than the original, I have to learn to synthetize)

  24. Frank

    Thank you so much!

  25. H.A.Z.R.D.

I am so grateful that you have worked so hard on this manga. I have been a huge fan of Yuki for years since high school. Seeing her cry in the disappearance of haruhi suzumiya just shattered my heart to pieces, so this manga made me feel a whole lot better lol. I remember stopping in chapter 38 because there were no more translated chapters and I had to do my basic training for the army :/ After a year and a half I picked it up again today and I’m afraid to finish it because I don’t want it to end :’c

  26. Leely

Wow, so many years following this one… Thanks so much to all involved in this translation! I’m here praying that Tanigawa Nagaru-sensei be less Kyon-like and more Haruhi-like, if you know what I mean… Endings are sad, but at least we know how to feel about them… Thanks again!

  27. Doctor Malsyn

Hey! I have no idea if you ever check up on this site anymore, but don’t hurt for me to use it either eh? I just want to express my sincere thanks for putting in all the effort you did in translating this, it’s clearly been a labor of love with the amount of work put in.

I’m probably one of the freshest fans if the series ever, only starting and finishing the Haruhi anime a couple weeks ago and then moving onto Yuki-Chan. I’ve yet to read any of the light novels attributex to the franchise, but who knows…

Anywho, it’s been a treat reading these. In a way, seeing your little notes in the margins and at the ends of chapters made it feel like I was reading it with someone at the same time. Bit of a weird thing to say maybe, but it was something of a comforting feeling.

Certainly prefered how things went here in the manga then I did the anime, though the visual effects for the Other Yuki were awesome. Seriously though… Why did I get the feeling they made that guy kinda gay for Kyon…? Eh.

It says up yhere that you were once planning on releaseing a final review of the series, but I guess that never went down. That’s fine though. I think we have a good impression on what you thought of it already. ^^

Take care out there, and thanks again.

    • Calculuswhiz

Oops, I guess this is a little late in coming, huh… Thank you for your nice message. I guess I forgot to actually make that final post, didn’t I… I was kind of going through a lot then and time kind of just went by quickly.

If I feel up to it, I’ll revisit and maybe post one last time.

      • Anon

Hey man, thanks for everything, today i just randomly thought “i wonder if yukifan site still up” and i end up found that good bye post, i know this sounds so cliche but eventhough i never meet any of you, i feel a connection with you guys, and heres my good bye for you and everyone, since life must go on.

        Good bye πŸ™‚

  28. alphonse

Heya, I don’t know if anyone checks up on this site anymore, but wow, seems like it’s been two years since it’s seen any activity. I think I’ll change that, so here’s a thank you note:

I just wanted to say thank you, a few weeks ago I finished the Haruhi anime and movie, bought a few of the light novels (currently reading “The Intrigues of Haruhi Suzumiya”), and then decided that I wanted to give “The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan” a shot. I had a lot of fun reading it and I don’t think I would have been able to read this if it weren’t for everyone who’s worked on it, and it’s safe to say this is probably my favorite manga right now.

Once again, thank you all for translating this story, and I hope you are all doing well now.

    • Calculuswhiz

Hi! Actually, yes. Thanks for following along with us, even if you did join in late!

This was a lot of fun to work on, and though I’ve grown up a bit since working on this, I’m still glad I was able to work on something like this, and that other people have enjoyed it.

I still like this work a lot. It had a cohesive and engaging plot, and was visually nice to look at, though it probably didn’t have any right to be as a spin-off story. I give the author/illustrator credit for not leaning too hard into bad romcom plot, and giving us something nice. I think Tanigawa even gave his approval to the author, IIRC.

(And, yes, I’m also still waiting on any sort of conclusion for the LNs. I don’t really keep up with it much though.)
